A corporate name search report is required by Canadian Federal and the provincial governments. The corporate name search report is used to determine the availability of a corporate/business name.

In Canada, there are 2 different kinds of reports: a NUANS* biased report; and a provincial name report.

Canada NUANS Report

Nuans reports list similar corporate names and trademarks, except for names in Quebec. A Nuans report is valid for 90 days. If the 90-day period has ended, you must order a new Nuans report to submit.

Getting a report does not mean that your proposed name has been approved. It simply means that the name has been reserved for you for 90 days while it is being reviewed for approval. The approval process varies by jurisdiction.

Canada Provincial Name Search Report

A name search report compares the name of a proposed business to all other names already registered across Canada. This reports are processed directly by their respective provincial database and registry and NOT from the NUANS database.
